The Soar Foundation

Theory of our work

The Soar Foundation is constantly evolving its work not only in house, but also in collaboration with other experts.

At The Soar Foundation we are constantly evolving our work not only inhouse, but also in collaboration with other experts. Collaboration allows us to gain additional expertise on youth well-being, our works impact and guiding theories.

Soar will have a ripple effect on students’ capacities to reflect, to speak, and to attend to issues of wellbeing in themselves and their peers.
The skilfulness of the facilitators was exceptional. Dealing gently and sensitively with some initial reluctance and wariness from some students and listening patiently and inviting them to put themselves in the space and to name their world, the facilitators visibly opened up an honest and safe space. Professor Maeve O’Brien, School of Human Development, Dublin City University

I think the workshops helped to make students aware that every individual can be facing their own individual challenges and that they need to be mindful and respectful of this before they pass judgment on someone.

To evaluate the long-term benefits and effects that a Soar programme has had on its participants Soar has worked with UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre (UCFRC), based in the University of Galway. Working closely with Dr. Cormac Forkan, Senior Researcher at UCFRC, we found that a SROI based evaluation approach revealed the following positive outcomes.

-        More empathy

-        Improved emotional management

-        A growth in self-awareness

-        A growth in independence and critical thinking

-        Improved relationships with others

-        Greater emotional resiliency

-        More self-confidence

-        Greater self-efficiency

-        Greater sense of potential

-        More social support

-        Stronger sense of belonging

-        More maturitY

We continue to monitor the success of our programmes based on the experiences of young people and teachers who are experiencing the space. You can check out the most up to date news on what they have to say here
